By now you may have noticed, we actually like independent films.
Sure, you can make something 'good' for millions; now try to make something for five hundred dollars. See what you get. Well, sometimes you get self-absorbed, poorly-executed junk. Sometimes you get Mumblecore. And then there are people like Azazel Jacobs, one of a new breed of no-budget Bunuels, skirting the edge of irrational realism.
This is another one of those crazy, spontaneous, kind-of-love stories. An unlikely coincidence brings together the chaotic lives of two star-crossed lovers, oh hipsters of Silverlake. The storytelling is brisk, whimsical and at times self-loathing. Great style, colors and camerawork- played like an updated version of Godard's 'Pierrot le Fou' (with great use of music by pop/punk legends GANG OF FOUR). -Merrick |
