PIRATE RADIO - This fun, light-hearted British coming-of-age tale is set in the swingin' 60s, on a boat that broadcasts pirate radio to millions of listeners from the middle of the North Sea. Set during a time when the only way to hear rock n' roll was via these illegal stations, it chronicles a teenage boy's adventures on "the boat that rocked," when he is sent to stay with his eccentric godfather there. The impressive cast includes Bill Nigh, Rhys Ifans, Nick Frost, Kenneth Branagh, and  Philip Seymour Hoffman as the sole American DJ.

THE WIND JOURNEYS - This colorful Cannes Film Festival winner comes from Colombia - rent it at La Dolce Video months before its official release! After the death of his wife, a legendary accordion player embarks on a journey across the Colombian countryside to return his accordion to its rightful owner, The Devil. He is followed by a teenage boy who wants to be his apprentice...

THE SLAMMIN' SALMON - The latest comedy from Broken Lizard Troupe, the creators of SUPER TROOPERS, is about a heavyweight champion turned celebrity chef, and the waitstaff he ruthlessly bullies. In order to pay off a debt to the Yakuza, he tries to inspire the servers to sell more food by offering the top server $10,000, and the loser a punch in the ribs.

TENURE - Luke Wilson is an English professor competing for tenure with a pretty, Yale-educated new hire, in this quirky new comedy. His anthropology lecturer buddy, who spends his free time searching for Bigfoot and trying to score drugs from his students, convinces him to sabotage the new professor's career...

THE MISSING PERSON - A tormented private detective (Oscar nominee Michael Shannon of REVOLUTIONARY ROAD) is hired to tail a man who was presumed dead in the attacks on 9/11, in this intriguingly modern film noir.

CRAZY ON THE OUTSIDE - Not to be confused with the Oscar-winning film CRAZY HEART, this is Tim Allen's directorial debut about a criminal who leaves prison to stay with his sister, who tells everyone he's been in France. Let's hope it's the good Tim Allen, a la GALAXY QUEST, and not Tool-Time Tim.

STOIC - This generation's Ed Wood, Uwe Boll (POSTAL, BLOODRAYNE), turns to more serious subject matter in his latest indie flick. This one takes place in a prison cell  shared by four inmates, and examines human cruelty and casual violence.

TENDERNESS - An abused teenage girl becomes romantically obsessed with a young serial killer just released from prison.

YES MEN FIX THE WORLD - You may be familiar with the Yes Men as the anti-corporate pranksters who printed millions of fake copies of The New York Times, with fantasy headlines such as "Iraq War Ends" and "Maximum Wage Law Passes Congress." Well, that's not the only high-pro file hoax they've been up to in the last few years. Watch as they fool the BBC World News and all manner of corporate lackeys while posing as spokespeople for Halliburton, Dow Chemical, and HUD. Recommended!

BAD LIEUTENANT: PORT OF CALL NEW ORLEANS - Master of madness Werner Herzog teams up with master of weirdness Nicholas Cage, for a maniacal re-envisioning of Abel Ferrara's BAD LIEUTENANT (1992), set in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. Not your average crime drama, by any stretch.

LA FRANCE - This strikingly original French war-musical is about a farm girl who dresses as a boy and joins a WWI regiment in order to track down her husband, who wrote her a mysterious break-up letter from the front. Stark scenes of war are juxtaposed with bubbly 1960s-style pop songs in this film where "Bresson meets the Beatles."

TAXIDERMIA - This critically acclaimed surrealist film from Hungary is a triptych about 3 generations of men, each with his own obsession: sex, food, and death.

BEESWAX - The loose plot of indie 'mumblecore' master Andrew Bujalski's latest concerns friction between the young co-owners of a trendy vintage clothing store in Austin. Throw family members and former lovers into the mix and you have a realistically awkward, ambiguous, but entertaining little character study.

DIRT! THE MOVIE - This documentary narrated by Jamie Lee-Curtis explores the under-appreciated "living skin of the earth," and our often unhealthy and abusive relationship with it, traveling from California's vineyards to the plains of Kenya in an attempt to repair that relationship.

IRENE IN TIME - From cult director Henry Jaglom, whose heavily improvised, thematic blends of reality and fiction divide audiences like no other. We had the pleasure of seeing his previous film HOLLYWOOD DREAMS at the Wildrivers101 Film Festival and meeting irrepressibly giddy ingenue Tanna Frederick, who also stars in his latest, as a woman so obsessed with the dead father who spoiled her as a child that she can neither grow up nor have a healthy relationship with any man.

TONY - This intriguing U.K. indie follows an awkward serial killer as he stumbles through life in a filthy-looking, lonely, and treacherous London.

YOUSSOU N'DOUR: I BRING WHAT I LOVE -  A glimpse into Senegalese life through the eyes of one of it's biggest exports, singer Youssou N'Dour, whose known for pushing the limits of his Sufi griot roots, and offering up his spirit to the world. A moving, well-paced films for anyone interested in African music and culture.

PARTY DOWN: SEASON 1 - The best new sitcom nobody's heard of has an impressive pedigree: produced by Paul Rudd and writers from  VERONICA MARS, with episodes directed by Fred Savage (the kid from THE WONDER YEARS). A group of wannabe actors toil away at Hollywood soirees, political galas, and sweet sixteen parties for a catering company, while waiting for their big break.

TIME OF THE GYPSIES - This much-requested 1989 magical realism epic, by Serbian director Emir Kusturica, tells the story of a telekinetic Romani boy who is tricked into a life of petty crime in the underworld of Milan. This is a rare, out-of-print tape transfer of one our favorite films of all time, with an excellent gypsy score by Goran Bregovic. Only at La Dolce Video.

BLACK CAT, WHITE CAT – Another essential, out-of-print document of Yugoslavian culture from Emir Kusturica. This one is an outlandish romantic comedy about a community of gypsies on the Danube, ripe with lovable thieves, cads, and a literal shotgun wedding. Originally released in 1998. Only at La Dolce Video.

THE SADIST WITH RED TEETH / FORBIDDEN PARIS -  This Mondo Macabre two-disc set adds more colorful, offbeat 1960s Euro-Horror to our vast collection (see our 'Cult Closet' for more). Both Belgian features, the first concerns a comic book artist who believes a car crash has turned him into a vampire, and the second is a schlocky shockumentary about the seedy underbelly of 1960s Paris.

ICONS OF SUSPENSE: HAMMER FILMS BOX SET - England's Hammer Film Productions is best known for their iconic gothic horror films from the 1950s through 70s, but this showcases six of their non-horror films, available for the first time on DVD. This collection includes the sci-fi thriller THESE ARE THE DAMNED, from esteemed director Joseph Losey and starring a young Oliver Reed. Also included are the heist film CASH ON DEMAND, starring Peter Cushing, THE SNORKEL, about a teenage girl who must prove that her stepfather killed her mother, MANIAC, about an American dupe in France, the Hitchcockian psychological thriller STOP ME BEFORE I KILL, and the edgy NEVER TAKE CANDY FROM A STRANGER, about small time politics getting in the way of convicting a child molester.
