COCO BEFORE CHANEL - Audrey Tautou (AMELIE) stars as Gabrielle "Coco" Chanel, the hardened orphan who would go on to become one of the world's most recognized fashion designers, freeing women from the heavy layers and stifling corsets of the era in which she grew up. "[Tautou] finds her ideal role, playing a woman whose direct gaze took in and understood everything - from the desperation of her own situation to the ridiculousness of women's styles at the turn of the 20th century." (S.F. Chronicle)

REVANCHE - Nominated for a Best Foreign Language Oscar, this Austrian thriller is about an ex-con brothel assistant who falls in love with a Ukrainian prostitute and plots to free both of them from their situation. "The gorgeous, brooding, unpredictable neo-noir Revanche is one of the year's best films." (Salon)

BLACK DYNAMITE - Exceedingly fantastic celebration of the low-budget "blaxploitation" hits of the 70s. "Black Dynamite blends satire, nostalgia, and cinema deconstruction into a one-of-a-kind comedy high." (Variety) Recommended!

HOUSE OF THE DEVIL - Hearkens back to the heyday of hysteria over those depraved Satanic Cults that populated suburbia in the late 70's, early 80's. This is a pitch perfect must see for genre fans, or anyone who likes a good dose of suspense in their horror flicks.

WOMEN IN TROUBLE - "A serpentine day in the life of ten seemingly disparate women: a porn star, a flight attendant, a psychiatrist, a masseuse, a bartender, a pair of call girls, etc. All of them with one crucial thing in common. Trouble."

LAW ABIDING CITIZEN - A man whose family was murdered in a home invasion goes to prison after killing a suspect who was released, and from there he wreaks havoc on the city of Philadelphia, having key players in the trial killed one by one until the justice system is fixed. Jamie Foxx is the prosecutor who must race against time to save his family.

GOOD HAIR - In reaction to his daughter's question "Daddy, how come I don’t have good hair?” comedian Chris Rock made this documentary about the booming industries of African-American hair care products, hair weaves from India, outrageous hair shows, and the expensive lengths women will go to for allegedly "good hair." Interviews with celebrities like Salt N' Pepa, Kerry Washington, Maya Angelou, and the Rev. Al Sharpton, whom Rock refers to as "the Dalai Lama of relaxed hair."

SITA SINGS THE BLUES - This "astonishingly original," critically acclaimed animated feature combines a story from the ancient Indian epic the Ramayana, an autobiographical tale of the writer's husband breaking up with her via email, modern Indians arguing over the details of the Ramayana story, and the 1920s jazz vocals of Annette Hanshaw. "Captivating, mesmerizing, spellbinding." (Chicago Reader)

BRONSON - This highly acclaimed, exhilaratingly stylized film is based on the true story of one of the world's most violent prisoners, who gave himself the nickname Charles Bronson. "Whether it's Bronson's more theatrical bits or his untamable character's many blood-spitting, knuckle-beating explosions, [lead actor Hardy] chomps down on his once-in-a-career role with stunning ferocity and never lets go. He's extraordinary." (L.A. Times) "Bronson invites you to admire its protagonist as a pure, muscular embodiment of anarchy. And perhaps you will, but you may also be glad that he’s still behind bars." (N.Y. Times)

A SERIOUS MAN - The Coen Brothers' latest comedy is more Barton Fink than Big Lebowski, and just as much a must-see as these classics. (See our review.)

SERIOUS MOONLIGHT - Written by the late Adrienne Shelley, frequent Hal Hartley muse and director of the much-loved WAITRESS. This dark comedy stars Meg Ryan as a woman who takes her husband prisoner in their country home, trying to force him to work on their marriage, after he tells her he's leaving her for a younger woman.

THE SONG OF SPARROWS - Iran’s submission for the Best Foreign Language Oscar, from the director of international hit CHILDREN OF HEAVEN. After Karim loses his job at a rural ostrich farm, he travels to the metropolis of Tehran to support his family back home, and he becomes entangled in a world of hustle and greed."At times funny, sad, poignant and suspenseful, 'Sparrows' is a showcase for Majidi's masterful storytelling." (S.F. Chronicle)

ENDGAME - This U.K. drama about the end of apartheid in South Africa features William Hurt, Chiwetel Ejiofor, and Clarke “Lester Freamon” Peters of THE WIRE as Nelson Mandela. "Something like an old-fashioned Costa-Gavras film but without the leftist sentimentality." (The Hollywood Reporter)

COUPLES RETREAT - Vince Vaughn and Jon Favreau of SWINGERS team up again, this time as hapless dudes dragged to a New-Agey island couples retreat, where they are subjected to cringe-inducing bonding events with their significant others.

I HATE VALENTINE'S DAY - Doesn't everyone? Written, directed by, and starring the always adorable Nia Vardalos, of MY BIG FAT GREEK WEDDING fame. In this light rom-com she's a jaded woman with a strict five-date rule to avoid getting dumped. Aww, Nia.

THE TIME TRAVELER'S WIFE - I can attest from an in-flight entertainment experience that this will make some of you cry. It will make others laugh uncontrollably, at the same time. Either way this movie based on the novel is worth it for having an impact. It may be the sweet tear-jerker you're craving or the most bizarrely hilarious thing you've seen all year, and we all need that, too. Let it all out.

THE GIRL FROM MONACO - In this French thriller directed by Anne Fontaine (COCO BEFORE CHANEL), a neurotic middle-aged attorney goes to Monaco to defend a famous criminal, and he falls for a weather girl who turns him into a nervous wreck. It is up to his bodyguard to fix the situation."Much of the fun of this film is in watching [Fabrice] Luchini try to get a read on his loyal but impassive bodyguard, and in watching his knowing descent into abject helplessness when confronted by a sexy young woman's attentions." (S.F. Chronicle)

AZIZ ANSARI: INTIMATE MOMENTS FOR A SENSUAL EVENING - Standup comedy from Aziz Ansari of FUNNY PEOPLE, PARKS & RECREATION, and HUMAN GIANT. Contains an additional 30 minutes of material not included in the special aired on Comedy Central!

TROUBLED WATER - This acclaimed Norwegian dual narative follows Jan, who just completed a prison sentence for a kidnapping gone wrong, and Agnes, the mother of the child he killed. With a changed name, Jan becomes a church organist and begins an awkward romance with the pastor, Anna. When Agnes shows up at the church, there are no easy conclusions...

THE OBJECTIVE - This new supernatural thriller from the co-creator of THE BLAIR WITCH PROJECT concerns a mysterious special opps mission in Taliban territory two months after 9/11.

I CAN'T THINK STRAIGHT - We give this bonus points for the titular pun. It's a cross-cultural romance between a wealthy Jordanian Christian woman and an Indian Muslim woman in London. Will Tala leave her fourth fiance at the altar for her first real love, and what will Leyla do about her strict Muslim parents?

SARAH SILVERMAN PROGRAM: Season 2 - Watch as Sarah gets high for the first time, drives into Osama bin Laden (or at least people she believes look like him), suffers from adult bed-wetting, becomes homeless, and marries her dog!

LO -  In this surreal indie genre-bender, an ordinary guy falls in love with an eccentric woman who turns out to be a demon, and he must try to summon her back from Hell with the help of a lesser demon. "'Lo' is what you get when you mix a Peter Greenaway or Ken Russell movie with one of the wackier episodes of 'Buffy' or 'Angel.'" (Austin Film Fest '09)

BAD BIOLOGY - From the director of cult classics BASKET CASE and FRANKENHOOKER. An unusual young man and woman, "driven by biological excess," seek out elusive fulfillment until they find each other, resulting in a "truly god-awful love story" (the movie's tagline, not a critical review).
