2033: FUTURE APOCALYPSE - A dystopian sci-fi epic from Mexico, with impressive visuals, this is an allegory based on Mexico's Cristero War, a time when religion was outlawed in the country. The storyline follows Pablo, a numb yuppie who rebels against a totalitarian regime that keeps the population addicted to drugs.

BLACK HEAVEN - This pick from the midnight section of the Festival du Cannes is like the sultry French arthouse answer to TRON: LEGACY. A naive young couple is pulled into a dangerous 3D virtual world when they become obsessed with a mysterious woman in a black hood. This surreal thriller from the writer of FRIENDS LIKE HARRY takes some surprising twists and turns along its dark, future-noir path.
