Doesn't everyone have fantasies about running away, at some point?

Watching films like PIPPY LONGSTOCKING as a kid, I fantasized about leaving home to live on a pirate ship and traveling to exotic, barely hospitable places that would probably, in actuality, be the death of me. L'ICEBERG (2005) is like a running-away fantasy for adults; it brings back those feelings of magical not-quite-possibility. Sick of your meaningless job? Spouse wouldn't notice if you were trapped overnight in a meat locker? Just lacking in adventure? L'ICEBERG will let you escape for one and a half hours with writer-director-actress Fiona Gordon, France's equally quirky answer to Miranda July, as she leaves her family and sets out for an iceberg. Colorful, highly stylized, and packed with inventive physical humor, the film is so intensely visual that you can watch it without subtitles and still follow the storyline. Like a modern, more offbeat Chaplin film, with the same sweetness. Fiona Gordon and Dominique Abel's latest film, RUMBA, comes to DVD next week, and looks just as promising.
